Declaration of Independence

The idea for this piece came from a discussion about the masks we wear. My "cover" is a stubborn need to be independent and to figure problems out for myself... until, of course, I get stuck. The shield protects my vulnerable self. The dung beetle's hard shell covers soft wings. The beetle rolls up dung and lays her eggs there, creating life out of excrement.
