Lucy Meriwether Lewis Marks

This is a portrait of Meriwether Lewis' mother as she might have looked at age 40. There is one portrait of her which was painted the year she died; I used that as a reference. Lucy was an herbalist. In May through November, there is an exhibit of botanical art - depicting herbs she most probably used - at the Jefferson Foundation Library. This painting is included in that show.
